Challenge

Jobber strives to simplify day-to-day tasks for small businesses with software solutions that it continually iterates to meet changing customer needs.

Jobber’s customers tend to work on the go, in locations where collecting payment can be difficult. In the past, these service professionals used burdensome payment methods that adversely affected customer service. Card readers for in-person transactions needed to be ordered, shipped, carried to jobs, and kept charged, and manual entry of card-not-present transactions introduced fraud risk. Streamlining the payment experience was the first priority, along with making payments an easier and more intuitive part of service professionals’ daily routine.

“Our customers are already lugging multiple tools and equipment to work sites, so they don’t need another piece of hardware to carry around,” said Jenna Pemkowski, payments product manager at Jobber.

Given these challenges, many defaulted to sending invoices after the job was completed. That delayed payment and increased administrative tasks while also delaying cash flow, as service workers had to chase customers for payments days or weeks later.

Jobber’s fintech team recognized that service providers relied on steady and predictable cash flow for running their businesses, whether to pay employees, buy materials, or cover vehicle-related costs like gas, insurance, and repairs. That made it imperative to reduce their reliance on invoices.

The team wanted a convenient and user-friendly method for businesses to collect on-site payments, so they could focus on the job at hand and improving customer service. Jobber also needed a solution that would be easy for its developers to implement and maintain, being mindful of internal priorities and resources.

Solution

In September 2025, Jobber worked with Stripe to enable Tap to Pay on iPhone, a contactless payment acceptance solution that’s easy to integrate using the Stripe Terminal SDK.

With the Tap to Pay on iPhone integration, Jobber enabled service providers to accept all types of in-person, contactless payments—from physical debit and credit cards to Apple Pay and other digital wallets—right on their iPhones, no extra hardware needed. With Tap to Pay on iPhone, every transaction is protected by the iPhone’s built-in security and privacy features.

Jobber’s engineers used the Stripe developer documentation to integrate Tap to Pay on iPhone into the Jobber platform and mobile app. Once enabled, Jobber encouraged businesses on the platform to adopt Tap to Pay on iPhone through a variety of channels such as social media, email, and other forms of direct outreach. The company also announced the new feature during Jobber Now 2025, a live virtual event that brought together thousands of businesses on Jobber.

“We gave businesses some in-product prompts to help them get started and made additional help docs available for those who had more questions,” said Pemkowski. “In general, they got the hang of it pretty quickly.”

Results

Tap to Pay on iPhone simplifies field payments

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, Jobber’s service providers can now accept contactless payments wherever they work—without extra hardware or added complexity. The result is a faster, more seamless payment experience that improves cash flow and reduces administrative work for Jobber users.

“Tap to Pay on iPhone is very easy to use,” said Oleg Mochalov, proprietor of an appliance repair business based in Huntington Beach, California and a Jobber user. “Now everything is in one app.”

New Jobber customers can start accepting payments faster

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, service providers can begin accepting in-person payments on their iPhones immediately after joining Jobber’s platform—no need to order hardware, wait for it to arrive, or read and understand instructions that vary by device.

Card-present payments double in six months, reducing fraud risk

In the six months after introducing Tap to Pay on iPhone, Jobber doubled the number of card-present transactions it processed. This trend correlates with improved transaction security, given that tapping or inserting a physical card carries a lower likelihood of fraud than entering card details manually over the phone or from an invoice.

Jobber launches Tap to Pay on iPhone in six weeks with no native app development

Jobber integrated Tap to Pay on iPhone in six weeks, aided by Stripe’s API-first approach and comprehensive developer documentation. Jobber’s developers were able to integrate the functionality easily without needing to build complex payment flows.

Jobber builds consumer loyalty with Tap to Pay on iPhone

Jobber has improved the customer experience on both sides of service engagements with Tap to Pay on iPhone. “We hear from a lot of our customers that Tap to Pay on iPhone provides a smoother and more reliable face-to-face interaction with their consumer,” said Pemkowski.

Jobber customer Alberto Diaz of Goodwill Plumbing & Drain in Baldwin Park, California, agreed. “I’m very happy with how Tap to Pay on iPhone has been integrated with Jobber,” he said. “It’s made payment collection so much easier, and customers seem to appreciate it.”
