Challenge
As Kickstarter expanded into new global markets, it first needed to establish international subsidiaries. This required Kickstarter to understand complicated regional tax code and ensure compliance with regulations. Kickstarter looked to a payments platform to help it navigate these global complexities.
Solution
Kickstarter worked with Stripe to create local entities in new markets to match creators with backers. Within months, they were able expand to creators in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mexico.
Results
With Stripe, Kickstarter accepts card payments from customers in 195 countries and has successfully funded more than 160,000 projects.
In the past, we had to establish international subsidiaries, ensure we were up to date on the regulations and tax code, and have extra sets of books. Stripe has alleviated us from having to do all that internal work so that we can fulfill our mission of bringing creators and backers together.
