What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and maintain robust APIs, services, and systems across engineering teams using Ruby and Java;
  • Act as a domain expert of the payments family of Stripe products, and in particular various payout methods and underlying rails used in US / UK;
  • Build and enhance software infrastructure, encompassing the complete development lifecycle from coding to testing, deployment, debugging, and maintenance;
  • Design software systems leveraging scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure design outcomes;
  • Contribute to core interface design and write code;
  • Serve as a role model for how great software should be written;
  • Contribute code changes in every layer of the stack, from launching a net new payout method API to making a UI change in the Stripe Dashboard for the Stripe Connect product; Scope and lead technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to iteratively evolve and scale;
  • Engineer payments integration with banking partners to launch new markets, payout methods, and capabilities, while ensuring reliability and scalability;
  • Work with engineers across the company to build new features at large-scale;
  • Design and implement secure systems for sensitive data storage;
  • Work with engineers across the company to understand when existing infrastructure can be leveraged vs. when building a bespoke solution is necessary;
  • Evaluate and make informed decisions about technology and architecture choices in developing payment products;
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term roadmaps, making informed trade-offs to balance business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation;
  • Ensure technical decisions align with broader strategic goals while addressing specific emerging business needs;
  • Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation to ensure reliability; and
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota to manage and resolve production incidents affecting users.

Who you are

Minimum requirements

Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field followed by 2 years of experience in Software Development.

Position also requires 2 years of experience with the following:

  • Building software solutions in Python, Ruby, Java and Typescript languages;
  • Designing, building and working with large user-facing APIs;
  • Translating business needs into software requirements and designs;
  • Debugging production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack;
  • Designing, building, and maintaining scalable, high availability systems; and
  • Designing and implementing secure systems for sensitive data storage.

Salary: $156,800 - $235,200/yr.

This salary range represents the base salary range for the role and any sales commissions/sales bonuses targets, if applicable, would be in addition to the base salary.

40 hrs/week

50% Telecommuting permitted.

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico, Bengaluru, India, and Dublin, Ireland work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.
