Indirect Tax Advisory Consultant

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe's mission is to increase the GDP of the internet. We build the most powerful and flexible tools for running an internet business — handling billions of dollars each year and enabling millions of businesses worldwide to scale faster by building on Stripe. Our tax team partners with Stripes across the company to build an efficient, scalable tax structure as we expand into new markets globally.

About the team

Our International Indirect Tax Advisory function is responsible for determining the taxability of new products, managing indirect tax audits and relationships with local tax authorities, and partnering with our indirect tax systems and compliance leads on day-to-day matters. We work cross-functionally across finance, product, and engineering — and we're looking for a sharp, collaborative tax professional to join us.

What you'll do

The position is based in Dublin or London and reports to the International Indirect Tax Advisory Lead.

  • Serve as an indirect tax subject matter expert (global VAT/GST) for Stripe's business and finance teams, managing aspects of our indirect tax planning and operations
  • Support Stripe's international expansion, including advising on new market entry and product launches
  • Participate in policy matters affecting indirect taxes internationally
  • Collaborate with indirect tax compliance leads and international accounting teams on VAT/GST compliance, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of compliance processes
  • Support the management of indirect tax audits and other matters involving tax authorities internationally
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to define requirements and contribute to the design of tax solutions for our users
  • Drive indirect tax awareness across the business, including training and communication on changes to indirect tax legislation, systems, policies, and processes
  • Communicate complex indirect tax concepts clearly and accessibly to non-tax professionals across all levels of the organisation

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements below. If you do, we encourage you to apply. Preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 4–6 years of relevant indirect tax experience, with strong knowledge of VAT/GST laws and regulations
  • Bachelor's degree and a professional qualification in tax or law (e.g. CTA, ACA, AITI, ATT, or equivalent)
  • Previous in-house experience within a multinational business, combined with legal or accountancy firm experience
  • Experience with indirect taxes as they relate to the distribution of digital services and physical products
  • Accounting experience and proficiency with ERP systems and data analytics tools
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage clearly with all levels of management
  • Project management experience; detail-oriented, with a track record of taking ownership of complex work
  • Ability to extract, analyse, and review data and make sound recommendations
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment
  • Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team

Preferred qualifications

  • An advanced degree (e.g. LLM in Tax, MSc in Accounting)
  • Experience in technology, payments, or financial services
  • Experience in a high-growth or rapidly scaling environment
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with a curious, close-knit team of tax professionals who care deeply about Stripe's tax challenges — and each other

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico, Bengaluru, India, and Dublin, Ireland work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €69,400 - €104,200. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant’s location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.
