What you’ll do

As a Risk Operations Associate, you’ll execute and improve the operational programs required to meet financial partner and regulatory requirements, including those of card networks and global financial institutions.

You’ll investigate complex partner and merchant activity, make informed decisions, and take ownership of cases from initial review through resolution. This role is well suited to someone who is naturally curious, enjoys solving ambiguous problems, and can use sound judgment rather than relying only on a prescribed workflow.

Responsibilities include:

  • Investigate partner and merchant activity, identify relevant risks and facts, and take appropriate action based on established policies and sound judgment.
  • Own complex cases from end to end, including research, decision-making, documentation, stakeholder communication, and follow-through.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned operational processes and risk requirements.
  • Liaise between financial partners and Stripe merchants, from venture-backed startups to established institutions.
  • Maintain clear, regular communication with cross-functional stakeholders and lead working sessions when needed.
  • Identify gaps in systems, policies, and processes, then recommend and help implement practical improvements.
  • Participate in weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual business reviews for Partner Risk Operations.
  • Use AI-assisted workflows appropriately to improve the quality, speed, and consistency of operational work.

Who you are

Minimum requirements

  • 1.5+ years of experience in risk operations, fraud prevention, investigations, disputes, chargebacks, financial intelligence, trust and safety, compliance, payments, or any related operational roles.
  • Advanced conversational English fluency. All interviews for this role will be conducted in English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated investigation skills, including the ability to gather information from multiple sources, assess evidence, and reach sound conclusions.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with a track record of taking ownership and resolving problems end to end.
  • Ability to work autonomously in an ambiguous environment, make informed decisions, and know when to bring in the right partners.
  • A proactive, curious approach to understanding root causes, challenging assumptions, and improving how work gets done.
  • High attention to detail and a consistent approach to documentation, quality, and process adherence.
  • Ability to work 100% in office, from Monday through Friday, from Stripe’s Mexico City office at Av. Paseo de la Reforma 180.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in fintech, payments, financial services, or a startup environment.
  • Experience working with financial partners, card networks, banks, or other regulated financial institutions.
  • Experience with partner risk, merchant risk, fraud, chargebacks, disputes, Know Your Business, financial intelligence, or compliance operations.
  • Experience using data or analytics to inform operational decisions or process improvements.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional work across teams with different priorities and areas of expertise.
  • Experience identifying process gaps and improving standard operating procedures, policies, or operational tools.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted operational workflows.

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico, Bengaluru, India, and Dublin, Ireland work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.

Pay and benefits

Stripe does not yet include pay ranges in job postings in every country. Stripe strongly values pay transparency and is working toward pay transparency globally.
