About the team

Stripe’s Narrative & Editorial team brings together Content Marketing, Brand Marketing, Portfolio Product Marketing, Copywriting, Copy Editing, and Customer Marketing. We create coherent, distinctive stories about the businesses, technologies, and economic forces shaping the internet.

We are hiring a senior editorial leader to help bring original stories and insights from Stripe–based on our data, expertise, and customer conversations–to a broader audience via media partnerships and other brand marketing channels. This person will be an exceptional editor, writer, and creative partner with strong instincts about what earns attention: an argument worth making, an unexpected angle, an elegant execution, or a piece of work that people genuinely want to share.

This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to the leader of Stripe’s Narrative & Editorial team. The role will spend most of its time shaping major external media partnerships, with the remainder split between helping with original editorial work and advising partner teams on new ideas and their execution.

Responsibilities

• Lead the editorial and creative direction for Stripe’s most important external media partnerships, including advertising content, research-led collaborations, and original editorial programs developed with respected publishers and creators.
• Develop work that feels native to the audience and editorial environment in which it appears—not generic brand messaging placed beside someone else’s work.
• Turn Stripe’s original data analyses, economic insights, customer stories, and more into content pieces that are clear, surprising, useful, and memorable–and that readers and listeners won’t want to skip over.
• Shape the full editorial process for partnership work: refining briefs, identifying the strongest ideas, directing creative development, and providing decisive feedback on drafts and final deliverables.
• Direct and manage agencies, external creators, and editorial partners as needed, working within existing partnership structures and commercial agreements.
• Write, edit, and materially improve high-stakes content across formats, including blog posts, newsletter segments, podcast scripts, ad copy, social posts, and more.
• Generate original concepts for creative programs, editorial franchises, and nontraditional formats that broaden how Stripe contributes to conversations about the internet economy.
• Serve as a trusted thought partner to teams across Stripe, helping them clarify ideas, find the strongest expression of their work, and make better creative decisions.
• Partner with colleagues in Brand Marketing, Brand Design, Content Marketing, Portfolio PMM, Copywriting, and Customer Marketing to make Stripe’s storytelling more coherent and distinctive.
• Define and uphold a clear quality bar for editorial and partnership work, making well-reasoned calls about what is ready to represent Stripe and what still needs improvement.

We are looking for someone with exceptional editorial judgment and a demonstrated ability to make complicated ideas compelling. You may have developed that experience in a newsroom, independent publication, creative studio, agency, research institution, technology company, or another rigorous creative environment.

• You have 8+ years of relevant experience in editorial, writing, creative development, journalism, publishing, media, brand strategy, or a closely related field. This may include experience writing consistently for a large online followership, even if not professionally.
• You have an exceptional portfolio of published or public-facing work that demonstrates strong writing and editing, original thinking, and an ability to make ideas resonate with an audience.
• You are, in the best sense, very online: an active reader of and contributor to the newsletters, social platforms, and niche communities where people debate new ideas about technology, economics, science, business, and culture. You can spot emerging arguments, voices, and formats early—and engage with them authentically, with intellectual honesty and your own point of view.
• You are an excellent editor. You can diagnose what is missing from a draft or idea, identify the most interesting argument, and give feedback that makes the work materially better.
• You have experience developing original editorial work, sponsored media, advertising, creative partnerships, or other high-quality audience-facing programs.
• You understand the difference between work that is merely on-message and work that is genuinely interesting, useful, or worth discussing.
• You can translate complex subjects—including technology, business, economics, science, or policy—into work that is accessible without becoming simplistic.
• You have strong creative instincts and a sophisticated design sensibility. You understand how language, ideas, visuals, format, and distribution work together.
• You are deeply curious about the technology industry and the broader cultural and economic context in which it operates.
• You are comfortable influencing senior stakeholders, external partners, writers, designers, marketers, and agencies without relying on formal authority.
• You can move fluidly between strategy and execution: developing the core idea, shaping the brief, improving the draft, and making the final call on quality.
• You have high standards, sound judgment, and enough pragmatism to help teams make excellent work within real constraints.
