Product Manager, Payments API Features

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Payment API Features team owns building and maintaining core features of Stripe’s most heavily used Payments APIs, including PaymentIntents, SetupIntents, and money movement primitives that power Stripe Connect.

This is a hybrid platform and user-facing team, responsible both for ensuring Stripe’s APIs are highly usable and ergonomic, as well as empowering internal teams to build their features atop our payments infrastructure.

What you’ll do

As the Product Manager for the API Features team you’ll be responsible for APIs used by a range of Stripe’s users as well as a large internal platform relied on by other teams within Stripe. You’ll help ensure that enterprise users who need “bare metal” access to Stripe can successfully build and operate their payments businesses, and enable other teams at Stripe to launch new payments features (including Optimized Checkout Suite, Stripe Tax, Local Payment Methods, Link, and many others)

Responsibilities

  • Own and operate the Payments API platform for Stripe, including defining a multi-year strategy for extending our payments surfaces as Stripe’s business grows.
  • Collaboratively partner with other Stripe teams (engineering, legal, sales, support, etc) early in the product development lifecycle and jointly shape product plans that lead with delightful experiences.
  • Be an internal champion for the many teams that rely on the Payments API platform to launch new products. Own relationships with leaders across the org and continue to scale our processes.
  • Ensure we are building a reliable, performant platform, including system reliability, API extensibility, and latency.
  • Work closely with users, product teams, and cross-functional partners to build a comprehensive and frictionless payments product experience./

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a product role, ideally working on API-focused products.
  • An obsession over product quality, specifically an intuition for high-performing, ergonomic and long-lasting API design.
  • Strong API “taste” – you should know what makes a great developer experience and be a driver of good API design decisions, down to individual parameter naming.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a talent for precise articulations of user problems.
  • An ownership mindset and works on whatever it takes to solve problems and delight users.
  • Can dig deep into the data, think from first principles, and deliver the right results.

Preferred qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of delivering robust software solutions at scale.
  • Ability to understand complex engineering concepts on a deep technical level.
  • Experience working on financial products.

Hybrid work at Stripe

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $178,600 - $268,000. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
