For artists, getting paid for their music has long run through a complex set of outdated systems separate from managing their rights. Notes.fm, a New York-based royalty management platform for artists, bands, and music businesses, launched on Stripe Connect and Stripe Treasury for platforms in 2026 to change that, building streamlined financial accounts and payouts directly into a simplified, consolidated platform where its customers manage, credits, metadata and catalogs.

Music credits shape how contributors are recognized and how royalties are routed. When a recording’s credits, ownership data, or identifiers are incomplete, it can be harder to connect a piece of music with the people who should be paid for it.

Notes helps artists manage their catalogs, verify credits and resolve metadata issues that can often lead to missing or unclaimed revenue. Its open database, Credits.fm, brings music credits and identifiers into one searchable resource. Credits.fm reports coverage of more than 53 million recordings and 125 million works.

“For musicians, a missing credit is more than an omission. It can interrupt the connection between the music they made and the royalties they are owed. We built Notes to make that connection easier to verify and act on,” said Tim Luckow, CEO and cofounder at Notes.

Royalty earnings, all in one place

Notes collects royalties directly from the source where they're generated, by Spotify and other streaming services for distribution royalties and by The MLC for mechanical royalties, then calculates how much each musician receives based on the songs in their catalog. Notes uses Connect to send those payments and Treasury for platforms to provide the financial accounts where earnings are held. From there, Notes can split a band's earnings among members, or a musician can withdraw funds to an external bank account.

Recovery built into the workflow

Notes treats royalty recovery as a foundational piece of managing a catalog, rather than a separate task for artists to solve on their own. The platform helps users identify earnings that may be unmatched or unpaid, then work through the information needed to resolve them.

Notes also offers its own distribution, so artists can release music directly through Notes and prevent credits and registration issues from developing from the start. Royalties from a musician's releases flow directly into their Notes financial account automatically every month.

“Musicians should not need to become rights-administration experts to understand what their work has earned. Notes helps them see their catalog, check their credits, and take action on collecting the money connected to both,” said Luckow.
