Technical Program Manager, Infrastructure Platform & Reliability

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Infrastructure teams provide efficient and optimized infrastructure for Stripe to build secure, reliable and differentiated products, while enabling Stripe developers to achieve their highest potential. The TPM team that supports the infrastructure org has deep technical expertise in software infrastructure.

What you’ll do

As a Technical Program Manager in the Infrastructure space, you will play a key role within engineering and drive programs that span across Stripe in the core infrastructure of Stripe’s payment systems. You will be responsible for the successful definition, cross-functional strategy, planning and execution of large-scale technical programs that help to solve complex problems and enable products and infrastructure at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Operationalize and execute critical cross functional programs spanning most engineering organizations for platformization of reliability and failover mechanisms for Stripe distributed systems.
  • Execute on technical programs that require deep systems and engineering level knowledge.
  • Understand how to maintain software at high availability and reliability levels for our customers.
  • Partner with Engineering Managers, Product Managers and other Technical Program Managers to define, scope and drive large programs to conclusion.
  • Develop, implement, and iterate on program management techniques, frameworks, and KPIs to achieve goals with well defined success criteria.
  • Elevate the execution muscle of engineering teams around you. Train them to be better at delivery where needed.
  • Define and produce high quality written proposals, communications and documentation.
  • Leverage data and acquired knowledge to drive strategic decisions at an engineering leadership level.
  • Create widely circulated plans, driving consistency, clarity and building alignment across teams.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 7+ years of software engineering, systems engineering and/or technical program management experience.
  • Experience in core infrastructure, database technology and cloud computing services.
  • Understand high availability in distributed systems.
  • Understand failover mechanisms and engineering playbooks on executing disaster recovery.
  • Excellent analytical skills; you digest complex information, can distill it and make recommendations and proposals.
  • You have a track record of providing program management during all phases of software development from kick-off to launch, demonstrating critical thinking, challenging the norms and thought leadership.
  • You have very strong written and verbal communication skills, building strong relationships with stakeholders, teams and senior leaders around the organization.
  • You can drive internal and external process improvements across multiple teams and functions and bring a wealth of experience, opinions, proposals and best practices.
  • Experience operating autonomously and rapidly and leading large-scale efforts across multiple teams and functions, with stakeholders in different disciplines across time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in software architecture, systems design and best practices for database replication, high availability, failover mechanism and recovering from infrastructure disasters.
  • Understanding of large data engineering pipelines and modern open source data analytical engines is a bonus.
  • SQL and python scripting and/or programming skills would be a huge advantage.

Hybrid work at Stripe

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $144,800 - $260,200. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
