About the team

Our finance team is responsible for shaping our understanding of how Stripe is performing as a business, as well as what our best opportunities are for continued growth. We’re looking for an experienced financial controller to join our fast growing team. As the Controller in Brazil you will help us build our technical accounting and financial reporting processes, work with business partners, financial partners and our world-class engineers. You will help us develop best in class accounting processes and help track our progress within a fast-paced environment that’s growing globally.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Own the financial processes for our regulated legal entity in Brazil - monthly close of US GAAP books and local books, balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analysis, and reporting deliverables
  • Own the statutory audit process
  • Have fluency with US GAAP and local accounting rules and prepare relevant technical accounting memos where needed
  • Partner with Internal Systems, Tax, Treasury, Corporate accounting and Legal teams to support automation, legal entity governance and expansion to new markets
  • Oversee our finance outsourcing partners. These partners perform day to day bookkeeping tasks and manage payroll, accounts payable and tax compliance on our behalf
  • Review of direct and indirect tax returns which are performed by our outsourcing partners
  • Create documentation to help us scale globally
  • Self-starter mentality
  • Be fluent in both English and Portuguese 
  • Drive efficiencies in existing processes and transaction flows through simplification and automation
  • Remain up to date on changing regulations in Brazil applicable to payment institutions (acquirers) as it relates to COSIF or other local regulations. Implement processes and controls to ensure that we remain in compliance

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • Have 8+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably trained in audit (Big 4 preferred) and also have industry experience
  • Have a Certificado do Registro de Contabilidade and be eligible for registration with the Brazil Central Bank
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting systems (Oracle or similar)
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, and local accounting rules (COSIF, IFRS)
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the accounting and financial regulatory requirements in Brazil
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing cross-functional initiatives
  • Demonstrated track record of maintaining the compliance and good standing of legal entities across multiple jurisdictions
  • The ability to be detail oriented, but can visualize the larger impact of a series of transactions
  • Proven experience in the monthly close process, journal preparation and posting, audit, regulatory reporting and exposure to accounting systems.
  • A good understanding of both financial and operational controls
  • Be comfortable with large data sets and pivot tables
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to be flexible and very comfortable with changing requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast paced, hyper growth environment
  • Be fluent in both English and Portuguese

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of (or experience in) the Brazilian payments or financial services industries
  • General ledger accounting experience in a fast growing tech environment
  • Experience of working with outsourced accounting providers
