Financial Crimes Program Manager

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

As a regulated business, our second line of defense team plays a critical role in ensuring Stripe is effectively trained and aware of our regulatory obligations. In this role, you will work within Financial Crimes focused on the development and evolution of our financial crimes program for our Canadian entity, Stripe Payments Canada, Ltd., a regulated Money Service Business (“MSB”).

What you’ll do

We are looking for an expert financial crime professional to be a critical contributor to our Americas FC Compliance team. In this role, you will lead the delivery of key aspects of the financial crimes compliance program and play an instrumental role in helping to scale Stripe’s AML/CFT & Sanctions programs in Canada. Reporting to the Canadian Compliance Officer & MLRO, you will design, implement, and manage core elements of a robust financial crimes program. This will involve executive program management skills, including developing a roadmap for implementation of initiatives, ensuring all key stakeholders are brought into the delivery plan, and managing delivery in an agile and risk-based manner.

We are looking for a candidate who is eager to tackle challenging problems with a collaborative and solutions oriented approach. The successful candidate will be someone who can leverage their financial crimes subject matter knowledge to drive innovative solutions to mitigate financial crimes risk.

Stripe is both a technology company and a financial services company, and you will need to be comfortable straddling both of those worlds every day. The right person for the role will enjoy dealing with that puzzle, seeking creative solutions and moving quickly, often in the face of ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Canadian Compliance Officer and MLRO on designing, building, and scaling a best in class FC program covering AML/CTF and Sanctions matters.
  • Drive  the development, maintenance and implementation of the regional FC Framework; drafting Policies & Procedures, and providing guidance in support of Governance, Product & Market Expansion, Supportability, Operational Oversight and Ongoing Process Enhancement.
  • Own and implement the roadmap for the delivery of financial crime compliance programs, inclusive of regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Display strong risk-based decision making capabilities, with a focus on developing a compliance program tailored to the highest risk users, products, and transactions.
  • Work with global teams to ensure that Americas controls, processes and procedures are updated and operating efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with stakeholders across the enterprise, ensuring effective communication, reporting and escalation of issues.
  • Provide strategic advice to the business teams on compliance with existing and upcoming regulatory requirements, including change management and potential product implications.
  • Enable the building and maintaining Stripe’s relationship with regulators, law enforcement and industry bodies.
  • Play a lead role in ensuring a strong culture of compliance, consistent with the tone set from the top by the Stripe Board and leadership.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 8+ years experience in an AML/CFT and Sanctions role, preferably in fintech / payments, banking, or MSBs.
  • Strong familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends in Canada.
  • Previous experience executing on large-scale, cross functional projects and initiatives that meaningfully mitigate FC risk.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders.
  • An effective and relatable “culture of compliance” ethos.
  • Experience working as part of a financial crimes / compliance team focusing on CDD, fraud, transaction monitoring, risk assessment, investigations or ongoing monitoring.

Preferred qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in another financial crimes subject matter area.
  • Relevant ACAMS, CFE, ICA or similar training certification in AML/CFT and Sanctions Compliance.
