Credit Risk Strategist, Strategy & Operations

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe is building a world class Credit Risk team with a goal of managing credit losses while supporting resilient business growth.

What you’ll do

We are looking for an execution oriented Risk Strategist to help us shape and deliver on our ambitious roadmap. In this highly collaborative role, you will work to connect the dots across internal partner teams, help narrate the path forward, and then mobilize on that path while bringing stakeholders along through completion.

Specifically, this would entail working across pillars within our Credit Risk org and across Stripe’s technical and user-facing teams. You would work independently and often across functions to solve problems and design workflows that benefit our risk org and our users. Through effective & consistent communication, you will embed within cross-functional groups, understand their short- and long-term goals and plans, and translate those plans into strategy and roadmaps. This role is accountable for enabling scalable credit risk management practices, progression of strategic roadmaps, and overall mitigation of credit losses.

Responsibilities

  • Identify gaps in our current systems, policies and strategies, and recommend enhancements and process improvements
  • Work to scope out, prioritize, coordinate, and launch the initiatives that are most critical to Stripe in support of minimizing credit losses while providing positive user experience
  • Create short-term and long-term project plans, including setting milestones, ensuring adherence to deadlines and efficiently allocating resources
  • Design and implement processes that help scale our risk management practices within Stripe and operate at pace
  • Facilitate decisions and actions, while making certain that ‘risk and reward’ trade offs are at the core of our decision-making process
  • Hold a broader viewpoint by balancing multiple perspectives across the team, understanding other initiatives that are running parallel and ensuring proper overlap and communication between projects

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • You have 8+ years of experience in Risk Management (e.g., Credit, Liquidity or Market risk), Treasury Finance, or Finance & Strategy roles, as well as experience in strategy, business operations, program management, project management, or similar functions
  • You have the ability to quickly build strong collaborative relationships in order to successfully partner with Credit & the other risk pillars, risk operations teams, sales leads, product or engineering leaders, and more across Stripe
  • You are a data-driven problem solver, able to use financial modeling or large data analysis to tackle multi-dimensional & ambiguous problems
  • You enjoy doing whatever it takes to execute on complex projects

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with SQL or a willingness / aptitude to learn
  • Experience in a high growth technology company or in the payments space
  • Experience in strategy consulting or banking

Hybrid work at Stripe

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $138,800 - $208,300. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
