Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Internal Identity Team is at the forefront of securing user access across Stripe. Our mission is to provide a robust platform for identity and access management that is reliable, usable, secure, and compliant-by-default. The infrastructure and tooling our team builds allows Stripe to enforce strong authentication and authorization controls, while providing a seamless user experience for Stripes to do their best work.

What you’ll do

As a Backend Engineer on the Internal Identity Team, you will focus on building and optimizing the core infrastructure and products for our access management systems. You will play a critical role in designing solutions that balance rigorous security controls with user-friendly experiences, helping streamline access for our internal users.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust backend systems for the core access management infrastructure that supports Stripe’s global workforce.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to automate access and governance workflows, ensuring a frictionless user experience while upholding security standards.
  • Develop and refine a data model that abstracts complexity, enabling fine-grained access control and intuitive configuration management.
  • Participate in end-to-end ownership of solutions, engaging with stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, tooling, and processes to enhance team collaboration and efficiency.
  • Uphold our high engineering standards and bring rigor and consistency to the many codebases and processes you will encounter.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in backend development or infrastructure engineering.
  • Proficiency in languages such as Go and experience developing RESTful APIs.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS) and data management practices.
  • Experience with site reliability engineering and performance optimization techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset for working across teams.

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience in security or identity and access management is beneficial but not required.
  • Passion for building actionable security solutions and improving user experiences.
  • Understanding of automated governance principles and workflow automation tools.

You’ll Be an Excellent Fit If You:

  • Are excited about creating scalable, maintainable, and reliable backend systems in support of access management.
  • Enjoy tackling complex challenges with a user-first approach to security.
  • Thrive in a collaborative environment and value communication and teamwork.
  • Think creatively and holistically about reducing risk in a complex environment.

Working remotely at Stripe

A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.

Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $170,400 - $255,700. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
