Streamline in-person payments with recent Stripe Terminal upgrades
When we launched Stripe Terminal, our in-person checkout solution, our goal was to help our users deliver seamless commerce experiences across online and offline channels. In the four years since, we’ve been continuously working on improvements to help businesses better serve their customers.
Today we’re excited to share the latest Terminal updates, which enable our users to reach more customers globally, build with Terminal from any tech stack, and support more use cases for varying business needs.
Reach more customers globally
In recent weeks, we launched Terminal in the Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Portugal, meaning businesses can now integrate in-person Stripe payments in 20 countries in a matter of days. (Read our case study to learn how Lyte used Terminal to accelerate international growth.)
Terminal is certified in each supported country and offers built-in localization for readers to make it easy to extend an existing integration. API-based ordering lets you ship readers globally without having to manage local logistics.
Stripe turned something that takes months into days. We simply built our UK workflow based on our US workflow, so the integration was quick and straightforward. Stripe Terminal not only helped with our UK expansion but also opened the possibility of expanding to the rest of continental Europe.
Build with Terminal from any tech stack
We’ve made it easier to start accepting in-person payments by adding new options for integrating with Terminal, in addition to our Android, iOS, and JavaScript SDKs.
With the server-driven integration, which enables your point of sale to accept in-person payments using the Stripe API instead of requiring an SDK, businesses in the US and Canada can build with Terminal from any tech stack using an internet-connected application, the BBPOS WisePOS E smart reader, and a few lines of server-side code. (Read our case study to learn why Nextech built its payments solution with server-driven integration.) Businesses can also now integrate with Terminal’s React Native library to simplify app development and build cross-platform mobile applications.
The server-driven integration allowed us to build in a way that made sense for our infrastructure. It increased the reliability of our integration and provided us with options for how to select the best connection mechanism for card readers based on merchant needs.

Support for new use cases
We’ve added several new features to help businesses across the food and beverage, service, travel, and healthcare industries provide better customer experiences and capture more revenue.
We added options for on-reader and on-receipt tipping to make it easier to collect tips, as well as incremental authorization—meaning you can update a purchase amount without a second transaction, for example if a customer wants to add goods or services to their tab. With flexible authorization windows, you can gather payment information for bookings and reservations, and then capture the payments at a later date. We also made it easier for customers to make repeat purchases by offering the ability to save a card used in-person for future use online. And with PCI-audited point-to-point encryption (P2PE), you can meet compliance requirements in regulated industries such as education and healthcare, and reduce your PCI scope, audit costs, and audit time burden—contact us to get started.
