Challenge

Fever is the leading global live entertainment discovery platform, helping over 300 million people each month find the best experiences in more than 40 countries. Rather than operating as a production company, Fever is a tech-driven platform that empowers entertainment creators—including partners such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Disney, and Netflix—to scale their entertainment experiences through proprietary data and ticketing solutions. The American company, which was founded by three Spanish entrepreneurs, has expanded rapidly into new markets and partnerships since launching its current product in 2014—redefining how audiences engage with culture and live entertainment worldwide.

Each new city or partnership requires Fever to adapt its offerings and payment experiences to meet the cultural norms, partner preferences, and local payment methods expected in that region. Fever relies on global partners that can provide local expertise and flexible, secure technology, so it can enter new markets quickly, with a top-of-the-line payment experience.

In addition, the ticketing industry is frequently targeted by fraudulent activity. Fever needs advanced tools to secure payments, identify risks, and resolve issues or disputes.

“The payment process is a trust process,” said Alejandro Macho, vice president of payments at Fever. “We’re not just selling customers tickets to events; we need them to feel comfortable throughout the purchasing process on our platform. We want to offer every single payment option they’re used to seeing and give them confidence that the transaction is secure.”

Solution

In 2019, Fever identified Stripe as the trusted partner it needed. “We chose Stripe because we needed a strong global partner, not just a payment provider,” said Macho.

The company moved the vast majority of its global business onto Stripe Payments. With a single integration, Fever could securely process transactions across regions, payment methods, and currencies—key capabilities given its global presence.

Stripe’s Optimized Checkout Suite helped the company deliver the frictionless payment experience its partners and their customers wanted. Fever also used Stripe’s Payment Element to easily turn on additional payment methods, including Klarna, and iDEAL. Additionally, the company plans to add Link, a wallet built by Stripe that creates an easy, secure checkout experience by autofilling customers’ payment information. To further enhance conversion rates and customer experience, Fever used the Optimized Checkout Suite’s built-in AI models, which dynamically display localized pricing and the most relevant payment methods based on each visitor’s location and many other factors.

Fever partnered with Stripe’s professional services team for guidance in its transition to the Payment Element. The team recommended additional payment methods, particularly digital wallets, to improve customers’ checkout experience. Then, to recover failed transactions and improve acceptance rates, Fever adopted Adaptive Acceptance, which uses AI to refine authorization requests and reduce payment declines.

Fever’s Stripe integration also gave it access to Stripe Radar, which detects and blocks fraud using AI trained on data across millions of global companies. Stripe’s professional services team helped to optimize the company’s Radar configuration, adding more stringent protection in regions where its fraud risk is highest. Fever now creates custom rules using Radar for Fraud Teams to adapt to different scenarios and levels of risk as it enters new markets.

Results

Fever launches local payment methods in one week with the Optimized Checkout Suite

With the Optimized Checkout Suite, Fever can now quickly turn on 15 local payment methods as it enters new markets.

“When we have a great opportunity with a partner in a new country—even if it’s unplanned—we need to act quickly,” said Macho. “We’re really comfortable talking to Stripe, asking them questions, and leaning on their team to help us solve challenges as they arise. They help us understand payment expectations in each market and then stand up any new payment methods we need fast.”

Fever boosted revenue collection and improved authorization rates by 8% by turning on Adaptive Acceptance, which uses AI to refine authorization requests for issuers and identifies optimal retry messaging.

“Our engineering team has been very happy with the Stripe solution,” said Macho. “We haven’t experienced any performance problems during all these years, and that is very valuable to our partners, our users, and our business overall.”

Stripe fuels Fever’s future growth

Fever continues to enhance its checkout experience and offer entertainment partners the latest payment innovations through its partnership with Stripe. The company is currently testing Stripe Terminal in targeted regions to make it easy for customers to buy merchandise and concessions along with making other in-person purchases at events and experiences.

“Bringing every transaction into the same platform will help our teams get a complete picture of our data and event performance,” said Macho. “We can give our partners better insights, increase fraud prevention, and make meaningful improvements to our events and platform.”

To help manage compliance and build new business models in the future, Fever is implementing Stripe Connect. Connect embeds payment technology into marketplaces, platforms, and software—offering advanced money movement capabilities to facilitate pay-ins, payouts, and revenue sharing.
