What you’ll do

Help us strengthen regulatory safeguards at Stripe and protect our users from financial crime!

We are looking for an experienced leader to head Compliance and Financial Crimes for Stripe in Brazil. This person will serve as the Compliance and Money Laundering Reporting Officer appointed to the Brazilian Central Bank (BCB) and will oversee Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, Business Continuity, Cyber Security, and Financial Crimes programs for Stripe in Brazil. You will be the principal decision maker and strategic lead on compliance and financial crimes for Brazil.

You will play a critical role in ensuring that Stripe’s operations in Brazil adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and best practices—particularly in alignment with BCB Resolutions 65/2021, 85/2021, and 198/2023, and Circular 3978/2020 requirements for compliance, integrated risk management, cyber security, and financial crimes.

This is a senior, strategic role that requires strong regulatory expertise, deep understanding of Brazil’s financial ecosystem, and the ability to operate cross-functionally in a fast-paced technology environment.

Stripe is both a technology company and a financial services company, and you will need to be comfortable straddling both of those worlds every day. The right person for the role will be enthusiastic both about the mission of compliance and in the application of new and innovative technology approaches to protect Stripe, its users, the financial system, and the community at large from crime.

Responsibilities

Compliance:

  • Serve as Stripe’s appointed Compliance Officer under BCB Resolution 65/2021, ensuring adherence to all applicable Brazilian regulations.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Stripe’s Compliance Management System in Brazil, integrating local regulatory requirements into global frameworks.
  • Oversee compliance risk identification, assessment, monitoring, testing, and reporting processes.
  • Ensure proper internal governance and escalation mechanisms to promote a strong culture of compliance and ethical conduct.

Financial Crimes

  • Serve as Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) on Stripe's regulatory license(s) in Brazil.
  • Ensure Stripe's global Financial Crimes frameworks, policies, programs, and controls (e.g., KYC, Transaction Monitoring, Suspicious Activities Reporting, Sanctions, and Risk Assessment) address local regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that all potentially suspicious transactions are investigated and reviewed in accordance with established procedures, with appropriate escalation and risk mitigation measures.
  • Oversee Enhanced Due Diligence processes for high-risk users in Brazil.
  • Partner with internal teams and local vendors to implement automated solutions that improve user experience while mitigating risk.
  • Maintain policies and procedures to demonstrate regulatory compliance, including policies for AML and Sanctions.

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

  • Implement and oversee Stripe’s Integrated Risk Management Framework in accordance with BCB Resolution 198/2023.
  • Lead local risk identification, evaluation, and mitigation efforts, ensuring consistency with Stripe’s global ERM program.
  • Partner with global and regional risk teams to align on risk appetite, metrics, and reporting.
  • Oversee periodic risk and control self-assessments (RCSA) and provide executive-level risk reporting to management and the board.

Business Continuity & Cyber Security

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and testing of Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP), consistent with BCB Resolution 85/2021.
  • Ensure operational resilience through alignment between business continuity, cybersecurity, and operational risk programs.
  • Collaborate with Security, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to enhance local cyber resilience capabilities and incident response readiness.

Regulatory Affairs & Strategic Advisory:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Banco Central do Brasil (BCB), COAF, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee regulatory reports, notifications, and responses to supervisory requests.
  • Prepare and deliver periodic reports on compliance, financial crimes, and risk management performance to senior leadership and governing bodies.
  • Maintain oversight of internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and remediation plans.
  • Provide strategic advisory to Stripe's business teams on expansion initiatives, both enabling growth and advising on risk mitigation.
  • Serve as a thought leader for supporting innovative, technology-focused compliance and financial crimes solutions with regulators and partners.
  • Build and maintain Stripe's relationships with compliance and financial crimes counterparts at partner financial institutions.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Compliance, Financial Crimes, Risk Management, or related regulatory roles in financial services, payments, or fintech.
  • Prior experience as a Compliance Officer or MLRO registered with the BCB.
  • Deep familiarity with BCB regulations, including Resolutions 65/2021 (Compliance), 85/2021 (Cyber Security), and 198/2023 (Risk Management), and Circular 3978/2020 (Financial Crimes).
  • Proven track record leading compliance, AML/CTF, and risk management frameworks in regulated environments.
  • Experience interacting with regulators (Banco Central do Brasil, CVM, COAF) and external auditors.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex regulatory concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data protection, cybersecurity, and operational resilience topics.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a global, technology-driven environment.
  • Strategic thinker with sound judgment, strong analytical capability, and attention to detail.
  • An effective and relatable "culture of compliance" mentality.

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with international frameworks (e.g., Basel, COSO, ISO 22301, ISO 31000).
  • Certifications such as CAMS, CFE, CRCM, FRM, or CISM.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise GRC systems and data analytics tools.

Hybrid work at Stripe

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

Working remotely at Stripe

A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.

Pay and benefits

Stripe does not yet include pay ranges in job postings in every country. Stripe strongly values pay transparency and is working toward pay transparency globally.
