About the team

Money as a Service (MaaS) oversees a diverse portfolio of Stripe's core products and platforms. These offerings facilitate the global movement and management of funds for users. We ensure Stripe users have the robust financial infrastructure and tools they need to power their businesses on a global scale.

The Romania based teams build the platform that connects to the national payment systems and handle the physical storage and movement of money. We provide a simple and reliable interface to internal customers, and drive and enable the expansion of our product lines globally.

What you’ll do

As an Engineering Manager within this organization, you will lead a team of engineers, but also have a high say in product decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of talented engineers on the team, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure their success.
  • Understand user needs and pain points to prioritize engineering work and deliver high quality solutions that meet user needs.
  • Drive the execution of projects, overseeing the entire development lifecycle from planning to delivery, while maintaining high standards of quality and timely completion.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership (architecture/design, vision/direction/requirements setting, and incident response processes) for your reports.
  • Set the team’s direction, from north star vision, to goals/OKRs, and roadmap. Align with the broader MaaS organization, and our customers
  • Drive execution on the roadmap, making sure we deliver big bets, but stay noble to an ever-changing environment
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Partner with our recruiting team to attract and hire top talent, and define the overall hiring strategies for your team.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as an Engineering manager
  • Technical enough to drive clarity with staff engineers about architecture and technical strategic decisions.
  • Works effectively cross-functionally and is able to think rigorously, communicate effectively, and make or coordinate hard decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Encourages a healthy work environment that’s both challenging and supportive

Preferred qualifications 

  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Experience being a manager-of-managers, or leading a large team with multiple squads and workstreams
  • Experience working with managing partner relationships, and building an internal platform on top of external providers
  • Has built products before, and wants to be involved in product development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for different audiences (leadership, users, company-wide).
  • Experience managing rigorous incident response processes and on call rotations.

 

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.
