ResNexus expands to new markets with white-labelled payments platform built on Stripe

ResNexus is a cloud-based property management software provider for the hospitality industry. Founded in 2004, it specialises in the bed and breakfast, boutique hotel, and campground markets. The company built ResNexus Payments, a white-labelled payment portal powered by Stripe. This solution is gaining traction with US properties and enabling the company to expand into international markets.

Challenge

ResNexus was one of the first cloud-based booking platforms for the hospitality industry, building a leadership position with B&Bs and boutique hotels. In 2015, the company added campgrounds to its customer mix and now holds substantial market share in luxury camping, or "glamping," properties.

Over the first 19 years of its evolution, ResNexus worked with 6 different payment processors – sometimes multiple providers simultaneously – but none could fully support its growth objectives. ResNexus, which is based in Salem, Utah, derives 90% of its revenue from its strong US foothold. To expand into international markets, the company needed a platform that could support complex payment flows and accommodate a wide range of global payment methods.

Unfortunately, when the company engaged yet another payment processor in 2023, it found that the company's support and infrastructure couldn't meet its global needs. The partnership added risk burdens as well, requiring ResNexus to assume liability for unpaid balances. "We tried it for over a year and could only add a handful of clients because it was too painful to manage and scale," said ResNexus Vice President Nathan Mayfield.

The ResNexus team sought a new payments provider that would not only support its international expansion, but address other payment-related requests from its properties in the US and Canada, including faster payouts, more payment methods, and tools to improve authorisation rates.

Solution

In January 2024, ResNexus met with the Stripe team to discuss payment processing for international transactions. During that process, the company recognised that the integrated nature of the Stripe product suite would benefit its properties in the US and Canada as well. "We were impressed by Stripe's ability to support different payment types in a wide variety of countries," said Daniel Gregory, director of special development at ResNexus. "We saw how easy it would be to continue to grow with Stripe without dedicating a lot of development resources."

The opportunity to build a white-labelled payment platform with Stripe Connect, a solution for orchestrating money movement across multiple parties, especially appealed to ResNexus. The resulting product, ResNexus Payments, launched in January 2025. ResNexus used Connect's embedded onboarding to save developer resources and white-label the payment workflow. This enabled ResNexus to capture the data and documents needed to onboard new properties compliantly without building custom APIs.

Through Connect and its integration with Stripe Payments, ResNexus increased its value to business owners by giving them control in how they used the platform. Properties can choose to accept the payment methods that best serve their customers, for example, and opt in or out of features to suit their business models.

After supporting only 4 payment methods in its first 20 years, ResNexus expanded its payment offerings using Stripe's Optimized Checkout Suite, which helps businesses maximise revenue, increase conversion, and save thousands of engineering hours. With the Payment Element, a secure, embeddable UI component that allows businesses to accept a wide variety of payment methods with a single integration, ResNexus enabled ACH, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link, a wallet built by Stripe that saves and autofills customer payment details for a fast, easy checkout experience. ResNexus also plans to activate buy now, pay later options (known as "book now, pay later" in the hospitality industry) and several local payment options in the European and Latin American markets.

ResNexus opted to use cross-border payments through Stripe for properties in underserved markets where card processing is limited, such as Costa Rica and Tanzania. To reduce failed payments across all markets, ResNexus used Stripe's built-in authorisation optimisations, including network tokens, which replace a card's primary account number with a unique, secure identifier, enabling seamless payment processing.

To support on-site payments, ResNexus implemented Stripe Terminal, giving properties access to the Stripe Reader S700, a smart reader for countertop or handheld in-person payments. By integrating payments across channels, properties using ResNexus gained a unified view of travellers' transactions, leading to better data and insights and a simpler reconciliation process.

ResNexus selected Stripe Managed Risk to enhance its Connect integration. By offloading risk management to Stripe, ResNexus benefits from lower operational overhead and continuous monitoring for risk and compliance. With Managed Risk, Stripe assumes the risk of credit or fraud losses from unrecoverable negative balances. Stripe also provides support for all payment-related issues that ResNexus properties face, from onboarding through the entire customer lifecycle.

In April 2025, ResNexus launched Stripe Instant Payouts, which allow properties to transfer funds to an eligible debit card or bank account within minutes of a transaction.

Results

Nearly 300 ResNexus properties go live on ResNexus Payments in first 4 months

In the first 4 months after launching ResNexus Payments, nearly 300 ResNexus properties onboarded or migrated onto the new platform, at a steady pace of around 75 each month. "Every time we announced the availability of Stripe to another part of our client base, we were overwhelmed by new applications," said Mayfield.

ResNexus saves at least two months of development time using embedded components

Since integrating Connect, ResNexus has measured the time savings for its development team in months. The initial savings came from using embedded onboarding, which saved a month of development time.

This solution also eliminates the need for RexNexus to adapt to different countries' onboarding requirements. Gregory estimated that the company has saved up to two weeks per country now that it uses Stripe to facilitate international onboarding.

Ease of adding payment methods enables expansion into new markets

With the Payment Element and dynamic payment methods, adding new payment methods is as easy as toggling them on. That's led ResNexus to target several markets for expansion. Currently the company is focusing on the UK, Mexico, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, with Australia to follow.

"Stripe has really made it possible for us to grow internationally," said Gregory. "Without them, we wouldn't be able to have a viable product in Europe and Mexico. Now we will be able to offer local payment options in local currencies without worrying about banks, regulations, or risk."

Network tokens provide 2.6% authorisation lift

In its first 3 months on Stripe, ResNexus saw an increase of 2.6% in its authorisation rate thanks to its use of network tokens.

Stripe Managed Risk safeguards against potential financial losses and limits support costs

With its previous payments partner, ResNexus was on the hook for unrecoverable negative balances, but Stripe Managed Risk took that liability off its plate. "We're glad to have a true partner helping us with what we don't know, so we don't make an egregious error that could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars," said Mayfield. "And we appreciate that we can scale at our own pace instead of having to immediately hire 5 or 10 employees to handle customer support."

Instant Payouts launches in less than a week

ResNexus was able to launch Instant Payouts within one week, providing the properties on its platform the faster payouts they desired, with a light development workload. "With Instant Payouts, we like that our clients don't have to choose it as a default all the time, just when they need the money right away," said Mayfield.
