Important updates on Stripe data storage migration in India

Overview

As part of our continued investment in India and to meet local data storage requirements, we’re moving the servers that store India data to be located within the country. During our migration, Stripe’s core services will remain unaffected. However, some features will be impacted at the end of April 2021.

This page lists the features impacted by our upgrade efforts. We’ll keep this page updated regularly to make sure you’re informed of our progress as we work to quickly restore any disrupted services.

This is a substantive infrastructure change, placing us on the right path to support you for the long-term in India. Should you require any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team.

Expected product impact on India transactions

Payments

Payments remains unaffected with the following exception:

• Stripe Card Updater which runs in the background to update replaced or expired card numbers, will be temporarily disabled in India. This impacts only internationally issued cards.
  

Starting April 30, 2021.

Billing and Invoicing

Billing and Invoicing remain unaffected with the following exceptions:

• Starting April 30, 2021, Revenue Recognition in Stripe Billing will be temporarily disabled in India.
  
• Starting July 17, 2023, Stripe will resume fees for Billing and Invoicing. See details on our support page.
  

Connect

Connect remains unaffected with the following exceptions:

• Payment information can no longer be cloned into or out of India. Non-Indian platforms will no longer be able to clone payment information to Indian connected merchants. Platforms within India can still clone payment information to Indian connected merchants.
  
• Card fingerprint, which uniquely identifies a particular card number, will change. Going forward, the same card details can have two different fingerprints, one for India and another for the rest of the world.
  

Starting April 20, 2021.

Dashboard

Dashboard remains unaffected.

Radar

Radar core machine learning fraud detection remains live, along with ZIP/CVC check rules.

Radar for Fraud Teams features will be temporarily free in India until further notice. These include:

• Modifying Radar’s block threshold for high-risk payments
  
• Manual review rules and the review queue
  
• Risk Insights and the related payments list
  
• Blocklists and allowlists
  
• Dispute win ratings
  
• API access to lists and reviews
  
• API access to specific risk scores
  

Stripe Radar & Radar for Fraud Teams will be free for India until further notice.

Sigma

Sigma will be temporarily disabled in India.

Starting April 30, 2021.

API Reference

API Reference remains live, but some personalized content, such as sample API responses will be unavailable until further notice.
