Over the past 20 years, Etsy has become a leading global marketplace for creative goods, connecting shoppers to a vast world of treasures such as handmade ornaments, custom jewelry, and vintage wares. In May 2025, Etsy partnered with Stripe to integrate Instant Bank Payments into its platform.

This move supports Etsy’s commitment to connecting its community of makers with the millions of buyers who turn to Etsy for unique goods.

“We’re delighted to offer our customers a new payment option,” said Megan Oxman, head of payments at Etsy. “Now customers can seamlessly connect their bank accounts and use this trusted payment method to shop on Etsy.”

A better way to pay

Etsy’s Link integration is designed to simultaneously increase conversion and reduce processing costs. Instant Bank Payments with Link, a wallet built by Stripe, gives buyers on Etsy a quick and secure way to pay with their bank account, expanding their payment options and offering greater flexibility at checkout.

“When evaluating new payment methods, we prioritize access and preference,” Oxman said. “We want to ensure our buyers have access to their preferred payment methods at checkout.”

Solving the bank payment challenge

Traditionally, ACH payments have been low-cost, but often cumbersome, requiring customers to manually enter their banking information every time they want to pay directly from their bank account. On the merchant side, ACH payments typically take up to four days to be confirmed, which can impact both order fulfillment timelines and cash flow. And standard ACH transactions come with the operational complexity of failed bank payments—including notifying customers, collecting updated payment information, reprocessing transactions, and managing return fees.

Stripe’s Instant Bank Payments solution addresses these challenges, enabling customers to connect their bank accounts in a few clicks. And because Stripe’s risk intelligence maximizes successful payments and better predicts failed payments, Instant Bank Payments offer guaranteed payments, even if they are later returned by the bank.

Driving bank-payment adoption

To encourage adoption during the holiday season, Stripe partnered with Etsy to introduce a customized cash-back incentive for customers using Instant Bank Payments for the first time. The offer increased Instant Bank Payments adoption by 5x. Once buyers connect a bank account through Link, it is securely stored in their Link wallet for one-click checkout and can be reused across Etsy businesses for future purchases, reducing friction and driving ongoing cost savings for their merchants.
