Behind the scenes: How Everlab delivers proactive healthcare with Stripe

Everlab is Australia’s leading longevity program, offering preventive diagnostic tests and personalized health and wellness plans to help patients reduce their risk of disease. With Stripe, the company built flexible payments and billing infrastructure that supports its broad service offerings and rapid expansion into new markets.

For most people, healthcare is reactive: you get sick, seek treatment, take medicine, and recover. Sam Kothari and his co-founders Marc Hermann, Dr. Steven Lu, and Anshul Jain wanted to make healthcare more proactive by helping patients identify disease risk factors earlier, so they can stay healthier for longer.

In 2023, Kothari and his partners launched Everlab in Melbourne, Australia, and spent 18 months designing its products and services. The company takes a comprehensive approach to preventative health, combining risk assessments, diagnostic testing, imaging, and personalized treatment plans led by certified physicians, dietitians, and specialists. Patients can purchase individual diagnostic tests as needed, along with annual memberships for ongoing monitoring and continuous care programs tailored to their health goals.

A payments partner for proactive healthcare

Everlab’s billing and payment needs were complex. Its offerings included annual memberships, one-off tests, and recurring care programs, making it critical to find a partner that could support a wide range of billing models while meeting patient expectations.

“We wanted to work with someone we could trust to ensure things work really, really smoothly. If there is any risk that the infrastructure isn’t stable or doesn’t work as expected, it erodes the trust that we trade on. That trust is the most valuable moat we have,” said Sam Kothari, cofounder and chief operating officer at Everlab.

Everlab was introduced to Stripe by one of its early investors, the venture capital firm TEN13, which had seen Stripe help its portfolio companies go to market quickly. TEN13 recommended Stripe because its product suite gave Everlab the flexibility to test and refine new offerings, update pricing, modify subscription tiers, and improve the payment experience as the company learned what resonated with patients.

TEN13 recommended Stripe because its product suite gave Everlab the flexibility to test and refine new offerings, update pricing, modify subscription tiers, and improve the payment experience as the company learned what resonated with patients.

“We all have our different health goals, and we all need something different from the health system. Some people start with an annual plan, while others purchase different tests throughout the year. Our payment infrastructure had to be flexible enough to support people throughout their health journey and allow us to interact with them at the right point in time,” said Kothari.

From rapid experimentation to deep integration

To keep Everlab’s engineers focused on building out the company’s digital platform, Kothari began experimenting with Stripe on his own. He used the visual builder in the Stripe Dashboard to create checkout pages, add products, and experiment with subscription tiers. He also experimented with a handful of third-party plugins to further customize the checkout page.

Once Kothari settled on a final design, he assigned one engineer to lead the integration of Stripe’s APIs with Everlab’s internal infrastructure. The integration only took two weeks. By embedding Stripe into its platform, Everlab created a customized checkout experience tailored to its products and patient journeys.

Everlab used Stripe Payments as the foundation for a seamless and flexible payment experience across its growing set of services. By embedding Stripe’s payment element directly into its checkout flow, Everlab created a fully branded in-app payment experience and enabled a wide range of payment methods, including American Express—a key credit card for Everlab’s patient demographic—as well as other major credit cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and bank transfers.

Everlab implemented Stripe Billing to manage subscriptions and recurring payments for services like annual memberships for ongoing care. Everlab also implemented Stripe Invoicing for more complex payment scenarios, such as when a customer wants to split the cost of a one-time diagnostic test into monthly installments.

By connecting Stripe to its CRM and automation stack, Everlab ensured that payment events trigger downstream workflows automatically, removing a significant layer of manual reconciliation. The finance team no longer manually matches Stripe payouts to invoices or updates CRM records, saving roughly 10 hours a week. And when charges do fail, Stripe's Smart Retries determines the optimal time to retry a billing invoice, while Authorization Boost keeps card details up to date and optimizes each payment attempt. Together, they recover approximately 30% of failed charges automatically, protecting an estimated 1–2% of gross revenue from involuntary churn.

Turning complex payment data into deeper insights

Everlab has grown rapidly, increasing its revenue 23x year-over-year in 2025. As Everlab scaled its operations, Kothari and his team used Stripe Sigma to analyze transaction data, track performance, and support internal reporting. Kothari has used Sigma’s AI-powered assistant to generate customized reports with simple, plain English prompts, helping the team answer questions faster and close the books more efficiently.

“It’s improved our month-end close significantly. It saves me a whole day of effort each month because I no longer have to run a massive Excel report and make assumptions. I can just get Stripe Sigma to tell me what I want to know,” said Kothari. “It’s also helped make Stripe our source of truth when it comes to the nuances of our customers and our products. These insights have been a massive unlock for us.”

To manage its high-value transactions, Everlab uses Authorization Boost, which uses AI to optimize payments in real time by automatically updating card details and retrying failed charges behind the scenes. This helps minimize declines and protect the patient experience—especially for higher upfront payments, where a failed transaction can lead to lost revenue or disrupt a patient’s care.

Payments infrastructure built for global scale

After establishing its offering in Australia, Everlab expanded into New Zealand in early 2026. Because its payments and billing infrastructure was already built on Stripe, the main work was configuring NZD pricing, setting up the correct tax rates, and making sure existing flows handled the new currency. The payments piece was one of the quickest parts of the NZ launch—without a flexible provider, the billing setup alone could have been a multi-week project. “We didn’t really need support to get up and running in our first new market,” said Kothari.

Looking ahead, Everlab is focused on bringing its proactive approach to healthcare to patients around the world. With plans to expand to the UK in 2026, the company will use the global expansion playbook it established in New Zealand. Because its payments and billing infrastructure is already built on Stripe, Everlab can begin accepting British pounds from day one and easily enable local payment methods as needed. That allows the team to focus on tailoring its services to the UK’s unique healthcare system, patient needs, and regulations.

“The best thing I can say about Stripe is that I don’t have to think about Stripe,” said Kothari. “It allows me to focus on the business instead of payments, which is where I can have the biggest impact.”
