What you’ll do

We are looking for a Sanctions Controls and Supportability Specialist to
join our Global Sanctions Compliance team in the United States. In this
role you will focus on expanding sanctions controls to identify and
mitigate sanctions risk associated with Stripe’s products, payment
methods and users. 


  • Be a subject matter expert for Stripe’s existing sanctions screening
    systems, capabilities and relevant processes, including how the
    systems interacts with Stripe’s key products and markets
  • Lead upgrading and support for existing sanctions controls
  • Lead the scoping and implementation of new sanctions controls 
  • Collaborate closely with legal, engineering, data science, and
    operations to implement new sanctions controls
  • Maintain technical sanctions controls documentation
  • Perform regular management responsibilities of existing controls such
    as watchlists and sanctions keywords refreshes
  • Implement new and bespoke technical features and controls for large
    user requests, new products or payment methods and create
    documentation for that control
  • Conduct and decision user, payment method, product and market
    sanctions supportability reviews and implement new sanctions controls
    as needed based on those reviews
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and an ability to navigate non-binary,
    high-risk decisions
  • Adhere closely to process while still constantly questioning
    assumptions, suggesting improvements, and following up implementation
    of those improvements
  • Effectively and clearly communicate, including with other Stripes,
    Stripe users, and Stripe’s financial partners

Minimum requirements

  • 3+ years in a financial crimes compliance role or other risk
    mitigating role
  • Experience implementing, testing, or tuning sanctions, financial
    crimes or risk controls
  • Ability to manage large cross-functional technical projects
  • SQL abilities
  • Excellent communication, research and writing skills
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and data
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders 
  • Technical curiosity and an interest in evolving sanctions trends
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced

Preferred qualifications

  • Sanctions controls and/or screening experience
  • ACAMS, ACAMS CGSS or ACSS Certification
  • Excel abilities
  • Familiarity with MacOS and Google products
