Our tax team works with Stripes across the company to develop an efficient tax structure, as our international business scales and expands into new markets. We are looking for a well-rounded and seasoned tax professional to help us lead this effort.

This function will be responsible for Indirect Tax compliance and controllership and support Stripe’s international indirect tax (VAT / GST) function. The ideal candidate should be able to work well with cross-functional teams. The candidate must be able to communicate and promote indirect tax compliance and controllership needs across Stripe and its subsidiaries, and communicate complex indirect tax concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals. The candidate will be able to work with a high level of collegiality, working on projects spanning multiple teams. There will be a focus on creating, building, developing and improving indirect tax controls, processes and procedures across the The position will be based in either Dublin, San Francisco or Seattle and report to the Global Head of Indirect Tax.

You will: 

  • Review and sign off of the periodic international indirect tax returns prior to filing
  • Monitoring VAT receivables internationally and ensuring efficient and effective monetization of same
  • Managing the indirect tax registration process for our existing / future international entities
  • Ensure new projects and products launch with effective indirect tax compliance requirements and processes implemented, minimizing risk and exposure to penalties
  • Establish and document controls and processes within the Indirect tax function (VAT/GST) on matters ranging from end to end compliance, planning, audits and policy needs
  • Review and document process gaps as they relate to the indirect tax function (e.g. tax requirements documents, compliance work flows)
  • Identify and evaluate issues, efficiencies and opportunities related to indirect taxes
  • Establish and manage implementation of projects focused on improvements related to indirect taxes processes and controls
  • Promote indirect tax awareness and knowledge including training and liaising with business and tax partners on changes to indirect tax legislation, systems, policies and processes
  • Reviewing and analyzing financial data for proper application of tax laws and advising on development and maintenance of accounting and other systems used for tax reporting purposes and compliance

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • 12+ years of relevant international indirect tax (VAT/GST) knowledge, laws and regulations 
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous in-house experience within a multinational business and either legal or accountancy firm experience
  • Experience with indirect taxes as it relates to the distribution of digital services and physical products
  • Accounting experience and proficiency with Oracle and related data analytics skills
  • Able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Project management experience, detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects
  • Able to extract, analyze, and review data and make appropriate recommendations
  • Able to work in a fast paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment
  • Willing to learn and ability to quickly acquire knowledge
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to work autonomously or within a team
