The Head of Culture and DEIB will assume responsibility for building and leading a measurable culture and inclusion agenda that is integrated into the overall business and talent strategies. The goal is to institutionalize a diverse and inclusive culture that enables us to competitively attract, develop and retain the best talent. The candidate will have experience leading company-wide culture evolution programs and leading DEIB in fast-paced innovative environments. As an ambassador of our culture, this role requires creating and gaining buy-in for a vision and driving change at scale. Impact on employee engagement, in addition to the company’s ability to recruit, retain, and develop diverse high-performing talent, will be clear and measurable.  

You will: 

  • Be an ambassador and curator for a diverse and inclusive company culture; operating in alignment and appreciation for Stripe’s culture underlying our success
  • Create organizational and people experiences that represent a global firm and are nuanced as needed globally, regionally, and locally
  • Develop a program of intentional culture management - amplifying aspects of culture that strengthen Stripe’s success and address aspects that require attention
  • Develop employee engagement strategies, with attention to an increasingly remote workforce
  • Evolve the DEIB vision and strategy as a critical part of fostering an inclusive culture; uphold a strong commitment to anti-racist work 
  • Continue to build and lead a comprehensive and measurable DEIB strategy that is integrated with the overall business and talent strategies of the company
  • Further develop the DEIB governance securing leadership buy in to enable successful execution; strengthening engagement and accountability 
  • Enhance organizational design disciplines and support for the organization 
  • Partner with the communications team to refine our internal and external voice on Culture & DEIB
  • Bring to bear appropriate market context and industry trends to advance our work; identify and engage with external experts and partners as needed

In addition to the experience and skills listed below, ideally the candidate will be trained in one or more of organizational behavior, psychology & development, organizational and cultural systems & dynamics, design theory, etc.

Successful candidates will:

  • Have experience setting and operationalizing talent strategies; view mandate as creatively enabling business goals through talent and culture strategies
  • Have worked in a high-growth, rapidly changing environment and/or in a highly scaled organization, ideally both
  • Be obsessed with user-centric approaches and building experiences aligned with the Stripe culture and mission
  • Be an excellent program and change leader; able to set a vision while ensuring high-quality delivery of the details 
  • Be creative; think deeply about the future of work and changing needs of an increasingly diverse and remote/hybrid workforce
  • Be excellent at applying strategic thinking and problem structuring to accelerate outcomes in a fast-changing, ambiguous environment   
  • Exhibit a high level of confidence in influencing change at the executive level; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Be an analytical problem solver using data to define strategy, programs and experiences; and measure them
  • Have a track record of collaborating effectively with, selling a vision and gaining buy-in and trust from a broad range of peers and senior, sophisticated stakeholders
  • Leverage strong relationship building and influencing skills and the patience and persistence to drive results over the long term
  • Be known as an excellent inclusive manager of people and teams, leading through empathy, development (of team and self) and pursuit of high-quality results
