We believe that Stripe’s high performance culture has been a critical factor in our success to date. The Head of Careers will be responsible for developing a strategy for the “Stripe Career Model,” including evolving our approach towards goal setting, performance management, feedback, talent reviews, capabilities / leveling, career paths and succession planning. This leader will also strengthen our program management capabilities to enable a seamless “go-to-market” experience for Stripes. The leader will design with our users – Stripes – in mind, to develop a meaningful career model that enables a high-performance culture through developing and retaining high-impact Stripes. The leader will partner across the People team to develop, recommend, and ensure successful implementation of this talent system. This leader will be pivotal in shaping the future of Stripes’ impact and experiences.

 

You will:

  • Design a talent system that supports a culture committed to outstanding performance management and development
  • Own the successful execution of our existing performance review and talent review programs; develop a roadmap to evolve these programs as a part of the overarching talent philosophy
  • Introduce a Stripe-wide goal setting as a foundational element for a scaled, fair and inclusive performance management system 
  • Partner with the business leaders to define competencies that define critical skills and knowledge for the future, which can be leveraged to discuss, assess, develop and move talent; evolve existing job roles/ architecture / leveling as needed
  • Develop and deploy programs and strategies for tracking and advancing high-potential talent within the organization
  • Bolster and lead our program management capabilities to enable a seamless “go-to-market” experiences for Stripes, with capacity to handle emerging talent moments (e.g, M&A)
  • Partner with L&D to ensure that skill requirements—at each stage of the Stripe career and for varying functions—are supported by targeted learning paths
  • Partner with Recruiting to deliver on a robust internal mobility talent market as part of the Stripe career model and supporting processes 
  • Partner with HR systems to redesign the tools to support our performance, up level and other career processes
  • Partner with all stakeholders (business leaders, HRBPs, HR Operations, Compensation etc.) to manage the tools, processes and communications involved in the successful design, preparation, and delivery of talent programs 
  • Measure the success of the career model outcomes and drive continuous improvement

Successful candidates will:

  • Have experience setting and operationalizing talent strategies; view mandate as creatively enabling business goals through talent and culture strategies
  • Have worked in a high-growth, rapidly changing environment and/or in a highly scaled organization, ideally both
  • Be obsessed with user-centric approaches and building experiences aligned with the Stripe culture and mission
  • Be an excellent program and change leader; able to set a vision while ensuring high-quality delivery of the details 
  • Be creative; think deeply about the future of work and changing needs of an increasingly diverse and remote/hybrid workforce
  • Be excellent at applying strategic thinking and problem structuring to accelerate outcomes in a fast-changing, ambiguous environment   
  • Exhibit a high level of confidence in influencing change at the executive level; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Be an analytical problem solver using data to define strategy, programs and experiences; and measure them
  • Have a track record of collaborating effectively with, selling a vision and gaining buy-in and trust from a broad range of peers and senior, sophisticated stakeholders
  • Leverage strong relationship building and influencing skills and the patience and persistence to drive results over the long term
  • Be known as an excellent inclusive manager of people and teams, leading through empathy, development (of team and self) and pursuit of high-quality results
