To enhance this important mission, Stripe is building a world class Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) capability in LATAM. We’re looking for a senior leader who will help us design, build, implement and scale a regional ERM program, an individual whose experience, insights and innovative thinking will elevate the ambitions of Stripe. As the ERM Lead for LATAM, you are a strategist and balanced risk thinker who is excited to build an ERM program from the ground up and then run it effectively in the region. You will work cross-functionally with the regional Chief Risk Officer and other executives and business unit leaders to interact with the regulators as needed, understand Stripe’s risk posture and to drive an integrated, coordinated enterprise-wide approach to active risk management. In this position, you will have a leadership role in developing, evolving and overseeing Stripe’s risk management program in LATAM, especially in Brazil and Mexico.

This role shall be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

In this role, you will:

  • Architect and formalize the company risk strategy and policy to foster alignment across the company
  • Document company-wide and entity-specific risk appetite statements and tolerances
  • Design and lead the build-out of the ERM program to identify, assess, respond, monitor, and report on risks
  • Establish and communicate a common risk taxonomy and lexicon to assess and manage risks
  • Implement the ERM program to identify, assess, respond, monitor and report on risks on an ongoing basis
  • Drive alignment and consistency across second-line functions and first-line of defense business partners
  • Oversee development of an organization risk control self-assessment (RCSA) process (including process mapping, risk and control matrices, inherent/residual risk) that will feed into ERM reporting 
  • Operationalize a GRC solution
  • Facilitate dynamic risk assessments, oversee mitigation plans and track closure of action items
  • Create a risk response program for key risks; evaluate and consult on key risk mitigation strategies
  • Enable a competency focused on identifying emerging risks to supplement the RCSAs
  • Apply the risk management methodology to new products, change initiatives, and business developments
  • Provide independent oversight and an aggregate view of enterprise risks
  • Identify and develop KRIs, metrics, tools, dashboards and other capabilities to analyze enterprise risks
  • Quantify expected outcomes and/or risk loss exposures
  • Develop an integrated risk-reporting model that will facilitate prioritization and transparency 
  • Report on risk management activities, trends and highlights to the executive team in LATAM
  • Support end-to-end management of governance reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate to address regulatory, investor, and customer inquiries regarding company risks and ERM
  • Promote a positive risk-aware culture through training, communication, and promotion of best practices
  • Once established, oversee continuous improvement of risk assessment and management practices
  • Evolve risk aggregation, reporting, and emerging risk identification to a dynamic, forward-looking capability
  • Team with ERM data analytics and modeling to design and implement a risk analytics directive, optimizing use of data, analytics, visualizations and automation to enhance understanding and monitoring of risks, operationalize risk appetite and tolerance, and assess effectiveness and alternatives of risk mitigations
  • Work in an orderly way with Internal Audit to ensure coordination and transparency related to the organization’s risks

We’re looking for someone who has/is:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study
  • 10+ years of enterprise risk management and other risk-related experience in the financial services industry 
  • Deep understanding of risk management frameworks, conducting risk assessments and controls mapping
  • Ability to conduct strategic assessments and to integrate risk management activities with overall strategy
  • Experience leading ERM programs with oversight responsibilities for credit, liquidity, market, cybersecurity, operational, compliance/regulatory, and strategic risks preferred
  • Experience assessing enterprise business continuity and resiliency programs
  • Solid knowledge of risk mitigation practices and risk responses
  • Experience working with GRC solutions and within regulatory environments
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to guide and influence teams across an organization
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast-paced environments, along with an ability to adapt as needed
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and analytical
  • Composed under pressure, objective and diplomatic
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and able to effectively collaborate to develop influential relationships
  • Experience working cross-functionally, implementing programs and educating teams 
  • Superior communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Excellent executive management and board-level reporting and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report positioning and clarity.
  • Fluent in English and in Portuguese
