Create a new cardholder

To add a new cardholder, navigate to the Cards section of your Corporate Card dashboard.

  1. Click the +Add button in the upper right hand corner of the dashboard.
  2. Select New cardholder. You can only have one active card per cardholder at this time.
  3. Select whether the cardholder is a team member who already has access to your Stripe account.
  4. If the cardholder already has access to your Stripe account, simply select their email address from the dropdown, click Next, set a spending limit for the cardholder’s card, and then click Submit.
  5. If the cardholder does not already have access to your Stripe account, select Invite someone new to Stripe, enter their email address, and click Next.
  6. Set a spending limit for the card and click Submit.
  7. The invited cardholder should automatically receive an email inviting them to set up their Stripe Corporate Card.

Physical cards

Requesting a physical card:

  • Both administrators and cardholders can request to have a physical card shipped to their physical address. Cards do not ship automatically. Cards are shipped via FedEx and we can only ship cards within the United States or Canada at this time.
  • Cardholders can request a physical card by clicking on the Ship physical card button at the bottom right of the card display panel on the My Card section of the Stripe Corporate Card dashboard.
  • Administrators can also request a physical card for cardholders on their account. You can do this by navigating to the Cards section of the Stripe Corporate Card dashboard, selecting the relevant cardholder, and clicking on the Ship physical card button to the right of the card.
  • Tracking information will be sent via SMS once the card ships.

Activating a physical card:

  • Cardholders need to activate their card after receiving it. They can activate it by clicking the Activate card button at the bottom right of the card display panel on the My Card section of the Corporate Card dashboard. They can also activate their cards with a text message by replying “Activate” to the SMS reminder. Finally, administrators can activate physical cards for any cardholder on their account through the Cards section of the Stripe Corporate Card dashboard.

  • Physical cards can be used to make purchases in person or online. Please remember that cardholders must activate the physical card upon receiving it, or they will not be able to use it!

PINs: Please note that there is no PIN with the Stripe Corporate Card so you will not be asked to set one up. If this comes up when attempting a purchase, we recommend letting the merchant know to process the transaction as a chip and signature card (rather than a chip and PIN).

Virtual cards

Virtual Stripe Corporate Cards are digital cards that give you the flexibility to make purchases online. They are not tied to specific cardholders. Instead, virtual Stripe Corporate Cards are tied to your Stripe Merchant account.

You can set up dedicated virtual Stripe Corporate Cards for specific payments, like recurring subscriptions, and designate custom limits in real-time. You’ll have greater control over business spend, with fast and easy ways to control your virtual cards through your Stripe Corporate Card dashboard.

Creating a virtual card:

It’s easy to create virtual Stripe Corporate Cards, even while you’re waiting for your physical Stripe Corporate Card to arrive in the mail.

To create a virtual Stripe Corporate Card, navigate to the Cards section of your Stripe Corporate Card dashboard.

  1. Click the +Add button in the upper right hand corner of the dashboard.
  2. Select Virtual card.
  3. Name your card. Because virtual cards aren’t tied to a specific cardholder, a common naming convention is to use [your Company Name] as a First name and [X_Service_Expense] as a Last name. Examples: Stripe Events or Stripe Office_Supplies.
  4. Set a spending limit.
  5. Click Create card.
