Learn how to initiate the process of copying data across accounts. Stripe can perform one-time copies of customer data across accounts, which results in a data copy from one Stripe account to another. Stripe provides this service upon request. There are two types of accounts: source and destination:
- Source account—The Stripe account currently storing the customer data. This is the account to copy the data from.
- Destination account—The Stripe account where you want to store the customer data. This is the account to copy the data to.
Data copying considerations
Take the following considerations into account when copying data to a new account:
We can only copy data from one account to another. We can’t merge or move the data. After it’s complete, the copied data exists on both the destination and source accounts.
We only copy the raw Customer objects and associated payment data objects (for example, card, source, payment method, and bank account objects). We can’t copy single euro payments area (SEPA) details at this time.
We can’t copy individual charges, payment history, invoices, plans, subscriptions, coupons, events, logs, or any other Stripe objects.
The copy operation doesn’t change customer IDs, resulting in the same IDs for customers in both the destination and source account data.
The copy process assigns new object IDs of the same payment type to payment data. For example, the process assigns a new card object ID to all card objects and new payment method object IDs to all payment method objects.
Source account data remains intact. We recommend keeping the original source account as a backup for your data.
Request a data copy
To initiate the data migration process, either a source account owner—or user with any role in the destination account—must log in to their Stripe account and complete the Contact support form.
If not already selected, choose Data Migrations from the support request drop-down menu.
If you’re currently logged into the correct account for the data migration, select Yes.
Select Copy data from one Stripe account to another Stripe account.
To define the requested migration, complete the generated prompts.
Click Send email to alert the Stripe data migration team of your request. When we receive forms from both the source and destination accounts, our team contacts both parties to provide further instructions on how to proceed.
